BTP brake pads pre-ride review

Pros: I have mixed feelings about these pads. Firstly, they weigh very little, more so in this case as the pads are glued on; the pad holders are the lightest you can buy (they are lighter than AX... Fibula? Not really sure), and they look decent compared to most BTP parts, with some pretty good workmanship to notch the 'nipples'.

Brake pad holders + Swissstop yellow pads = 42.2g
Mounting hardware not shown, (1 bolt, 2 washers) x 4 = 1.2g x 4 = 4.8g
Total weight = 47.0g

(Note: The stock mounting hardware is not shown for a reason - I don't use them. After tuning with nylon hardware = 44.2g)

Cons: I previously mentioned that the pads were badly disfigured in whatever production process Bernhard used, but not really big a problem: it's cosmetic, and having some free time, I fixed it, mostly. BTP shortchanged me by 1 aluminium washer. These are mostly service issues. Lastly, the lengths of the pads are not consistent.

The pads: At this weight, I could afford to use Swissstop yellow pads. There's a fundamental reason why cork compound pads (Corima, Zipp) cannot outperform these.

The dynamic coefficient of friction of this compound is almost double. An analogous comparison for cars will be say, the difference between the brake pads on your average salon (>0.3) and those on Japanese pro-tuning race cars (>0.56). You can find the friction angle (not really - that's static) or use a spring balance and it's dead fact. They work great in the wet, and are silent. to those concerned, these work on aluminium brake tracks too. The residue is easily removed.  They are claimed to have consistency in a wide range of temperatures, with no brake fade up to 300 degrees celsius., which is really impressive - I estimate that I'm not going to heat them any more than 160 degrees celsius no matter how much abuse I put them through. Lastly, these probably have the best track record; they are most heavily reviewed and always leave the best results.

Verdict: If you're not going for an all-carbon appearance or the lightest possible setup, I really recommend the Zero Gravity brake pad holders, which have a better price-weight parameter, and weigh very nearly the same. They are also machined to far better consistency.
